Today’s prompt: Something old
Remember listening to songs and then flipping it to hear more on the other side? Yes I still have this outdated, old cassette tapes!
These were the tapes I brought from home when I came to Japan as a student in 1996. It’s obvious that I couldn’t part with these old things that I’ve brought them all the way to Dubai even if we don’t have a cassette tape player anymore!
Also, pre-skype, pre-email era, I used to buy blank tapes and record my voice to send to my family back home. At most times, I wrote letters, by hand because email is not that popular yet and our school’s computer room is inaccessible except for lecture hours and anyway, it ran a very slow Netscape. And when I am tired of writing by hand, I would record the things I wanted to say in a tape and send it to them. Then family members back home would do the same – it’s always a joy to see my mail box at the dormitory with a bulky envelope: a cassette tape inside!
