If you are taking any of your meals, best not to see this blog post now. Take a step back, slowly but do come back!

I don’t mean to scare but reality is, people who eat exotic stuffs exists. And they are not bad people at all – just, you know, unique. People from different parts of the world are in Dubai so we get gifts from different countries from Turkish delights, Indian sweets, Iranian figs and dates, mangoes from Asia, etc…and for a change, presenting…crispy fried bugs and worms from Thailand! (don’t ignore the praying mantises on the left!)

The husband took this photo when someone from their office brought back a local delicacy that’s probably nothing out of their dreams and imaginations. See the men on the background taking a distance from the plastic-full of protein filled ‘snack’.

My husband is a foodie, an adventurer even. I did not dare ask him if he had some. I’m afraid of the answer!

For the curious, here are 10 Unusual Asian Delicacies to peruse further! WOULD YOU DARE??

Continuing yesterday’s post about the Grand Mosque, take a look at how the ablution room looks like:

Somehow this looks like the ladies washroom in the movie Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets, don’t you think so? It seems like the ghost Moaning Myrtle will appear any second!

Just outside of the ablution room is – I don’t know what to call this but it’s beautiful, nonetheless.

Ablution is the act of washing one’s body or part of it as part of a religious ritual. Muslims wash their hands, arms, feet and face before prayers.

*****

Sorry for the delay, I’m pleased to announce the winner of a set of business cards giveaway from Prinly.com is Elizabeth of Mother Daughter Diaries.

Legged races are popular in Japanese schools especially during Sports Day in the month of October. Here in Dubai, the Sports day at the Japanese School is held in January (because it’s too darn hot in October) so I had a chance to see these group of kids doing the legged race. In this event, 21 classmates line up in a single row with their legs tied together at the ankles, and run 50 meters together.

The children dramatically showed the Japanese ideal of striving together to achieve a goal as a team. See the video I took:

I’ve seen this leg races in the TV when I was in Japan but seeing this in person was really moving. You can see the team united not only in their steps but their breaths and the determination to get to the goal together. One single (step) mistake by one child will mean the destruction of the pile, defeat in the game. It is very touching to see children aiming one goal with teammates and sharing emotions together.

Japanese school children learn teamwork and sense of achievement through these legged race at an early age, something that they continue to have in them when they grow up, like how we see in the news today – people helping each other through the double calamity (earthquake and tsunami) that hit their country recently.
