heavy rains continue to lash UAE

When it rains, it pours! Global warming of sorts must be sending dangerous signals because it is still raining mad here in the UAE, resulting in floods, congested roads and lots of accidents this morning. The normal journey that would usually take 20 minutes from home to work became more than 2.5 hours.

Rains are expected in this desert region but not rain that lasts for days, not the ones that make our car wipers work overtime! Clearly, something is wrong the the weather and although I welcome rain, the city of Dubai is so not prepared for it. There is no drainage system, the roads are slippery and some parts of the city are flooded.

Though stuck in heavy traffic this morning, however, I am in no position to complain. I am dry, safe and warm inside our car. Some men on a truck in front of us are not as lucky.

What a mess. Those poor guys on the truck look miserable.

Hmmmm… Is it mere coincidence that the torrential, flooding rains occur while our President is in town??? I hope things clear up for you soon! I can’t believe those photos!

I’m used to getting a good soaking once or twice every winter, and yes, the streets flood because of it. Back in 1993, however, we had 13 days where it rained constantly. It was months before everything dried up!

Just like Manila. But then Dubai has no drainage system, so it is understandable and at least you couldn’t many things floating :D

The passengers are wet on that truck. Just like on other areas, it’s waist deep, lucky here in Dubai, not flooded.
