moon cradle

The symbol of a crescent moon cradling a five-pointed star is today identified as an emblem for Islam, just as a cross popularly signifies Christianity. Imagine the overjoy of the whole UAE population who witnessed last night’s rare occurence of a moon cradling a star in Dubai’s skies!!

We were among the lucky spectators. It was my mother’s first witness of such an extra-ordinary scene in her 55 years on this earth!

Here’s an attemt to capture the rare scene. They must have been together moments earlier as during the time I took this photo, the star is distancing from the crescent moon already.

At around 8 p.m. last night, the brightest planet in the sky shining just to the left of a crescent moon. There they were, the two grand actors on an expansive stage. The two who are an arm’s length but so far apart, millions of miles away from each other but sharing a magnificent celestial intimacy!

Quite the sight. I am glad I took the moment to click on the photo so I could see the star. I am sure there will be poetry written about it.
