we have been attacked!

Last night, we had a terrible attack in our territory.

Our territory, our home, our balcony, specifically. According to my mother who was at home the whole day yesterday, bees/wasps came hovering at 1 pm and she simply ignored it, thinking the insects were after our flowering plumeria tree in the balcony.

When she woke up from her hour-short nap, the bees already built a full blown colony! I came home at 7 pm and saw the whole bunch of them hanging in one stem of our tree, squirming against each other, moving in delicate motions, diving down the core, coming up again, looking at them closely would make me throw up. It was a disgusting scene!

Where do these creatures come from!!??

That’s not a beehive, that’s a whole lot of them in that bunch! Yuck!!

Enraged but didn’t know what to do, or rather, lacked the courage to do something than sigh and ogle then sigh again, we waited for my husband, our household handyman who can do everything even with limited resources. My mother and I decided we’d call him “Maki-gyver” (after McGyver, hubby’s name is Maki).

Husband arrives, welcomed by my over-reaction at the front door. I literally shoved his face into the glass panel to make him look at the bees. Boy was totally cool about it. He got an empty milk can, started to put crumpled paper and lit a fire. Smoke can drive bees away but the wind last night was too strong so it was not effective. He went out, not in the balcony, out in the front door and said he’d come back.

With a pesticide in hand, he told us to go to our rooms. After a series of shu-shu sound, he came inside our room and declared that the coast is clear.

Update: This morning, the bees are hovering again, unmindful of the carnage below them. We can’t go out and spray again and had to wait for them to gather like the photo above. Another ick scene waiting for me tonight.
