Show me a workout DVD and I’ll show you a bored exerciser. What’s the problem with these DVD workouts? People get tired of doing the same stuff over and over, things can get boring and long before you know it, the DVD will be gathering dust alongside your Windows installation CD.
I’ve been going to the gym for quite some time now but stopped this month and instead got a personal trainer in my living room.
*smug face*
I’ve been completely mystified by the glowing reviews of the EA Sports Active Personal Trainer for Wii that I know I have to have it and try it! Since our Nintendo Wii
console is the Japanese version, we couldn’t buy the English softwares here in Dubai. Finally, a friend of ours went to Japan so we asked her to buy the Personal Trainer for Wii for us. This is the living room personal trainer I am talking about!
The virtual personal trainer game uses the Wii console, of course, the Wii Active Workout Kit that contains the resistance band and the leg pouch.
If you think a game workout is easy, I’d refute your assumption. It is not. I always end up sweating and getting my legs sore (but not too much – just right). It’s fun – there’s upper and lower body workouts using resistance bands and body weight, there’s active cardio where I’ll be running, dancing, playing squash, tennis or boxing. Who knows what else is in store for me as I go along – new workouts are popping up every time!
Most of the exercises I did are more than 20 minutes but those minutes went by so fast.
What I Like:
- I get to pick my exercises so it means there’s no excuse for boredom, more room for consistency
- Good graphics and sound. The music accompaniment is cool
- Variety of exercises available
- I can see a virtual reflection of myself while exercising
- Trivial but I can choose my workout gear from shoes to shades.
- Can do double play – I can workout with a friend, a.k.a. my mother
What I don’t like:
- The resistance band is weak, it’s a joke to say the least. I will buy a more sturdy one
- The nunchuck wire gets in the way, I want to have the wireless nunchuck.
- Sometimes, the leg strap slips from my thighs while exercising. I hope they come up with a better leg strap soon!
- It doesn’t monitor weight loss.
If someone told me five years ago that I’d be working out in front of the TV via a sort of ‘game’, I’d say “crazy! I prefer the real world, real gym!” But here I am, loving the EA Sports Active Personal Trainer for Wii and looking forward to my next living room session. And I saved money initially for my gym membership this month!

I would love to be able to try something like this one of these days-I really do enjoy working out in an actual gym, but I want to be able to try this to see how it compares.
Great review!! It makes me excited (I’m a sucker for anything exercise related). LOL

It remains debatable how effective EA Sports Active or any other video game-based workout program will be at getting the masses into serious shape, the game’s combination of exercises and motivational programs is undeniably catchy.
EA Games continues to grow but is this going too far….?

The Forex Crescendo EA is the number 1 EA I have ever personally traded live, and I have no doubt in recommending it to you.
They had something similar for sale at Costco a while back. They had it running on one of the TVs in the electronics section, there was quite a crowd watching the ads for it. Two weeks later they were all sold???? I’m lucky I get to run outside, I don’t know what i’d do in 40 degree heat. You’d have to work out inside with the A/C blasting. As my buddy in Delhi describes it when it gets hot there “sapping heat”.
