This week, impatience punched me in the gut. Why do I still have a BK Whopper in my belly? (happens when I pinch it…belly fat is as thick as a BK Whopper. All together now, “ ewww!”) I want it to be gone, forever. I promise I won’t miss it.
I’ve been exercising and eating conciously, this time seriously (hah! how many times have I said that in the past years? but really, enough is enough) since March this year – just 6 months ago.
But with all those YEARS of inactivity and unhealthy eating, I know I wouldn’t expect to get back on track with a healthy weight and improved body composition in a short period of time. I shouldn’t expect to be bouncing back to my pre-pregnancy body, whatever that was, in just 6 months!
THAT is the sane version of myself talking.
The voice of the insane version says, while stomping feet on the floor and lips fully pouting: “But everyone who exercises, careful with their nutrition expect quicker results! I’m working hard, give me those rock hard abs, now, now, nooooow!”
You wouldn’t want to meet the insane version of me even on a good day.
I get impatient. Of all the obstacles in losing fat, impatience is the worst. People hop on the scale and see that they’ve actually gained or see the mirror and discovered a bulge or another cellulite. Impatience makes people give up and end up heavier than they were when they started. I wouldn’t want that to happen to me!
Got it, Oprah. I’ve thrown the typical scale and looking forward to buying the one that shows body fat percentage because it’s a more accurate way to measure fat loss progress. The typical scale shows both the muscle and fat weight. I could be weighing the same as last year but with different body composition and look different. I’ve decided to keep my cool despite the BK Whopper discovery and work harder. Now’s not the time to sit back on the couch and grab an Oreo (or buy coz there ain’t no Oreo in my house).
*sigh*
I need to listen to my sane self more closely. She is making sense and more patient than I am.
What do you do when you get impatient with your weight loss/fat loss goal? Do you keep your cool and fix the problem or froth about it and reach for the nearest Krispy Kreme?

Take my advice – throw out the scale and instead get yourself a tape measure. Scales are notoriously incorrect – you’re not weighing only your fat but your muscle and bones and water weight too!
But when you use a tape measure…you’re measuring INCHES…and that can’t be faked.
While I was losing my 50+ pounds….I learned to embrace the above idea. It made for far more sane workouts.
You lost 50+ lbs!? WOW! I could give you a big applause and standing ovation! I am very impressed! Yep, scale already thrown. I’m measuring myself every 4 weeks for my own sanity!

Sometimes weight loss isn’t really obvious when using a scale..espically when you’re loosing fat/gaining muscles, but you will definitely feel it in time!
Daily exercise, and some fun aerobic classes – as long as you’re doing a bit everyday and being consistent you will get there. Wish ya all the best!
Thank you! I should write in my walls, consistency is key! consistency is key!

don’t get impatient. you will get there. don’t reach for the nearest Krispy Kreme. don’t reach yet. until you’ve lived long enough without it. time will come when you won’t like its taste anymore. you’ve been doing great. don’t ruin it with.
rest if you must but don’t go backwards.
Not reaching for Krispy Kreme! I’ve not eaten it for months now (although I did have some Doritos at the beach early this week!).
Thanks for the motivation, Rose. I wish I could lose fat as easy as you.

Try adding Winsor Pilates to your routine if you want to focus on flattening your abs and strengthening the core.
Thank you! Are you using it?
Hey Grace, I know what you mean about being impatient. We all do it. It’s good that you can hear your sane self talking though. One thing, I wouldn’t really take advice from Oprah when it comes to weight loss…haha.
You are doing a great job on focusing on your results. It will come! We’re with you on this.
LOL Anna! About Oprah..I just used her picture as it came out of google images for the word “focus”.
I know she’s not a great model for weight loss! No offense to her. I’d rather stick with real life, real inspirational people like you.

This is the honest truth…I usually try to find another “weight loss” book, and stuff myself while reading it:-(
OMG Libby, NOO! For me, it’s the opposite. If I feel I’m going to stuff myself, I go read fat loss articles then my cravings go away…!

I usually either buy icecream or cheesecake… eat to my heart’s content… and end up feeling worse.
As for you…. ganbatte ne… you are really doing a great job!
Cheesecake hmmmm. NOO!

Patience is import for success. It is important not to try to change to fast. For me it is important to remember things can’t be fixed quickly. For that reason try to stay out of too much trouble. By making sure that you don’t hope for some future quick fix you can help yourself stay out of too much trouble. This might not fit your situation exactly but that is what I do.
Hi John, I believe this is your first time visiting and commenting in my blog. Thank you.
I believe there’s no quick fix in fat loss and I’m determined to take my time and aim for long term results!

I’m kind of the same way, except I think I’ll get amazing results if I do it ALL in one day! Now that just ends up killing me to where I can’t work out for a week because I’m in so much pain.
So where does that get a person? No where. Lol
I’m so impatient, but I, too, need to learn to listen to the ‘sane’ people in my head when that impatience rears it’s ugly head.
I’ve read that people won’t be able to stick to a workout program because they work out too hard, too soon and end up in such pain (as you mentioned) or worse, get injured. I was like that before…now I train safely and not get myself into a rush.
I just really want the belly fat to go away. *sigh*

I used to be impatient… then just eat everything I could get my hands on. Now, I’m doing better. I know that I cannot do much exercise, so I have to control my weight with portion control, so it is REALLY slow for me. so I allow myself the occasional mistake and know that I am gonna go up in weight occasionally. So, I judge how I am doing by the way I fit into my clothes and what size I wear, not by what the scale says.
You are doing wonderfully and you look terrific, so don’t get frustrated!!
Thanks Lorie. Just sometimes, in the middle of pushing myself hard in the gym, I look down, pinch my belly and thing: will the day come that I will really lose all these? Ah, patience is really a virtue I clearly don’t have!

I can truly relate to what you are saying. I would try dieting and if I did not lose the 10, 15, 20 pounds fast enough, I would find myself hanging out with my good friend “Krispy Kreme. But now I look at things in a different way. I changed my mind set to living a healthy life style, eating a healthy diet for life, instead of going on another crazy diet.
I treat myself every now and then to my favorite food and I come to love the skin I’m in (at the risk of sounding like Oprah).
