How to diet like the Cullens

Yeah, diet like the Cullens because all of them are fit? No, not that part. Although, yeah, I can see that.

Have you seen the movie Twilight (or read the book series for that matter)? If yes, then you must know about the Cullens – a family of vampires who live quite harmoniously with humans. Vampires feed on human blood and they were known to kill, at least as what the myth says. But the Cullens manage to control themselves even with close contact with humans, a very enticing food for them. It’s like being a chocolate addict swimming in chocolate river and not even tempted to lick.

Can  you imagine how much self control and discipline it takes?

While reading the book New Moon, the second part of the The Twilight Saga by Stephenie Meyer, I found out that Alice, one of the members of the Cullen family said as she talked with Bella, “you smell so good, Bella. I’m sorry, I shouldn’t allow myself to go this hungry. I shouldn’t have gone so long without hunting*.” Alice, as docile as she is, was tempted to her limits and if she wasn’t able to control, she could’ve taken Bella as her food although they were friends.

How do we connect this with any real, human diet? (especially for people wanting to lose weight)

It’s really simple. Do not go hungry or you will just be illogical and ravenous, attacking the fridge or buying and eating all the unhealthy foods at the supermarket when shopping then regret ever doing it. Just like what might have happened to Alice if she killed Bella to cure her hunger. I am sure she’d regret and cry after her binge.

December is a month of festivities with Christmas and New Year parties and for me, my daughter’s birthday, too. There will be food including unhealthy ones. How can I prevent myself from being impulsive and eating mindlessly? By not allowing myself to be hungry on those occassions. In one of the newsletters I get from Craig Ballantine, the creator of the Turbulence Training program, one struck a chord:

Nutrition wise, every food you take into your mouth will either help, halt or reverse your fat loss progress.

It makes perfect sense, but maybe not to someone who’s hungry. There are a lot of ways to prevent from going too hungry and my favorites are:

  • Eating a handful of almonds (yeah, yeah, yeah, nuts are fattening but I said a handful, not a bowlful and almonds got lots of health benefits including aiding weight loss)
  • Eating fibrous vegetables like broccoli, cauliflower – fiber helps you feel full
  • Eating one boiled egg
  • Eating a banana or an apple
  • Drinking green tea/lots of water
  • Having a big salad before going to a a party – which I didn’t do on the last party we went to. Thankfully, we left before dinner was served.

What do you do when you’re hungry?

Speaking of my weight loss journey, the 12 week Turbulence Training Transformation Contest will end in less than a week. Just like the previous transformation contest, the twelve weeks had been really fast. But unlike the first transformation contest I participated, there were bumps along the road – I went on vacation, got sick and halted exercise because of a tooth surgery. But I think I managed not to fall off the wagon. I lost another jean size and for the first time in my life after giving birth, I was able to get into a jeans with single digit size, and still breathe properly. ;-)

I’m going to reveal what that is and my previous size before using Turbulence Training next week to prove that this training program works and why it’s been dubbed, the best in the world. If you’re curious about the program, I invite you to download and test drive the Turbulence Training Sample Fat Burning Workout directly, here, for FREE! Right click on the above link and choose, ‘Save target as’. If you can’t join a gym and have no access to free weights, do check out The Turbulence Training 4-week Bodyweight Exercise program. Our body weight is a great tool for a workout. You can download it the report free by right clicking on the image on the left and choosing ‘Save target as”.

It was the first step I did and the best decision I’ve made regarding my health. It has helped me and I hope it could help other people who are tired of doing the same things over and over with very little or zero results.

* The Cullens, basically do not feed on human blood. Instead they hunt animals.

Okay, this is what I THINK. During the holidays, at parties…(at home this doesn’t apply)…when you are having fun….do NOT limit yourself. If there’s a plate of fudge out…eat some. If the host is serving something fattening? Eat some! Indulge yourself because if you don’t…then all you’ll do is think about wanting some of it and you’ll end up eating more of what you CAN eat.

Eat in moderation of course. But enjoy the festivities. And when you partake of the fattening stuff, drink water beforehand to fill the belly a bit. Plus, that will not add any calories to the indulging foods.

I say have fun and enjoy. Otherwise, you’ll end up eating more than you anticipated.

I think this is for people who do not know what moderation means (sometimes including myself). Eating a little before a party takes care of some of the hunger so you can have the delicious (sinful) food without overdoing it.

I agree with what you said about not limiting oneself. I don’t. I just put in a little bit healthier first so when I have that caloric dense food, it’s within what I can burn.

The title got me hooked lol. I think one thing we can also get from the Cullens is that they are one strong support group. Anyone planning a long-term fitness and diet regimen should have one, so you will have someone to pick you up when you fall off the wagon.

Hi Grace, great analogy on holding back on food urges :) I’ve seen the first one and I really want to see the second one. I heard it’s really good.

Can’t wait to see your results!

Oh you pure genius you! Taking something as complicated as dieting and comparing it to Twilight….PURE GENIUS! Cause it’s so true!

Thanks, Kayla! Glad you liked it. It just came to mind and I hurriedly worked my fingers through it. :-)
