Hi, Grace!
I can understand why it's customary to give all that cash. Such a complicated wedding ceremony must cost a fortune; the couple needs the money!

Your photos are beautiful; thanks so much for telling this story.

What a lovely experience you had, and Pristine looks so pretty. You are right, the boy is quite handsome... and his wife is so beautiful. The party looks like it was so much fun to be at and you seemed to have captured it all in such a wonderful way for us. I so enjoy reading your posts on other customes. I am so sorry that your MIL wasn't able to enjoy the day, and that your BIL missed her so much. I AM glad that he was able to express his feelings to his father and that they had such a wonderful moment together, I understand that is not the usual way for Japanese men, so that must have been all the more special. Your BIL seems like a wonderful man who will be a wonderful husband... as I am sure your hubby is in his own way as he was raised by the same father and mother.
Plus, he picked such a wonderful woman to be his wife... so he must be a very good judge of character!

I suppose who ever gets the bill for all of that will also be crying! Weddings are cool and all, but there is a lot to be said for keeping it simple.

How sweet! I always thought of Japanese men as stoic.

100 guests and four hours for a reception is the minimum norm for most fancy weddings here in the US. My wedding celebration lasted a week! The reception itself was about six hours long.

My husband definitely is less sissy than I am with regards to sappy movies for example but he did cry on our wedding day! -> I hope it's not because of regret!?

BTW, regarding Japanese weddings, 4 hours and 100 people is considered grand. I bet it's a norm for US and in other countries.

"He cried like he has never cried before. He sobbed like a little child wanting his mother, for goodness sake! He hugged his father and cried on his shoulder."... GOSH...(kinsa bay dughan dili matandog ani).

My brother is getting married to a Japanese girl in Japan this coming summer 6/16/07, being that I am the best man I would like to be able to recite some sort of poem or something that would be conducive to that culture.
