bus stories, again

Did you miss my bus stories? Guess what, I am back to writing bus stories again because we lost the car.

So what happened?

My husband’s current boss cannot draw the line between official and personal business. Just because M was so desperate for the job does not mean he can be a slave, although there are so many times I caught him slaving for his boss in the most unreasonable situation.

He works for a very small Japanese venture company in Dubai. Main responsibilities include maintenance of the company website (mainly since he is in the IT field), helping Japanese investors find properties in Dubai, and guide them through setting up their middle east business hub. He got a car because he needs to go out a lot. We were thankful we got a car during the start of summer.

Everything was well and good until, his boss started to ask him to drive all the way to the boss’s home to pick up something he left, accompany the boss to his son’s school and be the photographer, pickup the wife, take his luxury cars for maintenance repairs, etc. When he is behind schedule in his in-office work, the boss would flair as if he didn’t remember all the errands he ordered M to do.

Shocking of all, the boss asked for M’s passport because he wants to purchase a SIM card for someone else. Just for a background, every cell phone subscriber in Dubai is documented by the government. We need to submit a copy of our passport to obtain a SIM card (telephone number). So every prank call is traced and every offender will be punished/deported.

M had to put his foot down because I asked him, in no way he should give a very important personal document such as a passport to his boss. We will never know the evil intentions behind that request. That was the start of the bad blood between them.

M’s last day of work will be on the 30th yet. But his boss acted like a child and took away the car this early. The car is parked in the office building and if he needs to go on errands again, he uses it. Only, he is not allowed to take it home. Unbelievably immature dork.

I took the liberty of looking for an alternative job for him early this month. He was interviewed and accepted. The pay is better, the place nearer and since it is a ‘proper’ company (bigger and with formal organization), he should be fine. I hope. He starts on September 2.

So there’s something new in our routine and we have no car. Thank God the buses came on time yesterday and today. And the morning heat seemed to pity me. It was a cool 35C this morning.

I am back walking, waiting and sweating again. My mom sees it as agony, however, I see it as exercise. :-)

This is amazing! I can’t believe the slave labor of this situation – - I hope he will enjoy his new job and will be respected.

That was a good decision grace… What kind of Boss would get a document as important as the passport for his personal interest??… Goodluck to M on his new job! :-)

How incredibly arrogant and obnoxious! Really not on at all.

Sounds like M will be well rid of that idiot.

Good decision! It’s just a car anyway…you can have one if you wanted too but not to the extent na maging slave si M sa BOSS niya.

The running errands doesn’t sit well with me because those errands are personal matters.

And I agree about that passport thing. I would have run amok if that would happen to me or someone in my family. Know what I mean. Lol.

And I’m glad your DH found a better job.
