Dubai welcomed 2008 with a bang

It was quiet in the area where my family lives, though. At the strike of midnight January 1st, we could almost hear the rustle of the leaves in our balcony. There was nothing much outside except for the dark sky and some cars on the road. We live on the 7th floor and a fireworks display would have been a great sight!

Fireworks display near Burj Al Arab in Jumeirah

What happened was, there was an awesome fireworks display very near Burj Al Arab. Everyone who went there said it was spectacular and they have not seen anything like it! We were home, wrong location but nevertheless, it was by far the best and most relaxed New Year we celebrated since getting married so that should count as better than seeing fireworks, doesn’t it. No? Well, that’s just me.

Maybe we’ll check out the great fireworks display at the Burj when we welcome 2009. We need to think though what to do to avoid the traffic gridlock afterwards. People had been stuck on the streets until 5 a.m., I bet very tired and hungry and cursing. Hmm, not a very good way to start the New Year.

Well, welcome in 2008.
I would go almost anywhere to see a nice show of fireworks, too.
But being stuck in traffic afterwards kind of kills the joy of it, I guess.
There wasn’t much to see in my area either (the people here seem to go in more for the loud stuff instead of the nice looking rockets and such), but I had my hands full with trying to calm down my dog anyway.

I think a relaxed welcome to the New Year is a lot better than watching the fireworks and being stuck in the traffic til morning! I bet you’ve had enough of those fireworks displays in Japan. ;)

A relaxing New Year is sometimes the best. We had a slightly less relaxing one this year – fun for a change. Great photo and Happy WW!

They don’t allow fireworks here in the city, where I live so I actually had a calmer New Year.
Lovely photo you got.
Happy New Year!

I used to live right on the harbour, and could watch the fireworks without any traffic hassles. I could watch them from inside if I wanted. Made for some great parties.

I’ve done the crowd thing on New Year’s Eve – I much prefer to quiet and comfort of home.

Yes, it’s the dealing with the “afterwards” that make me stay away from large public displays! hee hee
