I mean, in my life.
It’s the hubz’s birthday next week and he turns 34. Everyone around us would say, he doesn’t look a day over 25. I am so not joking! I always get asked why I married someone so much younger than I am. Err, no. He’s older than me by a year and a month and I just look older because I was the one who got pregnant, went through a horrid 35+ hours of labor, screamed in the delivery room for at least an hour straight and slept at a maximum of 2-3 hours for almost a year.
Yes, I am bitter. And please don’t tell me things age-related that make me fell like I am a cougar. I have nothing with cougars, especially you, Demi.
But bitterness aside, a birthday is a birthday and as simple as my hubz is, he is the most difficult person to give a gift to. He doesn’t like clothes and when I buy clothes, it’s either he doesn’t like the color or like a pocket here and there. No jewelries needed either. No perfumes – he hates perfume!
He is techy and geeky so I’ll just grab a techy gadget and wrap it, simple as that, you would think but, no. He takes time to research all the functionalities, product and customer reviews before purchasing things so it would be too risky for me to buy things just like that.
So I’ve come up with the top three gifts for the geeky person in my house and maybe can be applicable in yours, too.
1. The Kindle: Amazon’s 6″ Wireless Reading Device (Latest Generation) – M (hubz goes by the handle, “M” in this blog) loves to read. He reads in the toilet, in the kitchen, in the car, heck – the only place he doesn’t open a book is when he’s in the shower! When we moved to Dubai, we cleaned out our house in Japan and yielded 4 big boxes of books! If I were given a chance to recycle those books? I’ll make a good king sized bed.
So, imagine all the space saved if he has a digital book reader instead of the normal, bulky books. Ah, that would be heaven. I am sure he will like this.
2. A Laptop – of course. A geek couldn’t live without a laptop! M’s current laptop is 5 years old and starting to wobble not to mention, it is big and so not portable. Since his work requires him to be on the go, it is a pity to see him carry his big and heavy Sony Vaio. What he should have is an HP Pavilion DV2-1030US 12.1-Inch Laptop that’s small, light and very portable!
Or this: Sony VAIO Lifestyle 8-Inch Laptop in Red!. This totally rocks. I especially like the color so if he doesn’t like it, I am ready to own it.
Features include:
- Intel Processor (1.33GHz)
- 2GB of RAM & built-in Bluetooth technology
- 64GB Serial ATA Solid State Drive & Integrated Mobile Broadband
- Microsoft Windows Vista Home Premium 32-bit
- 8″ LCD w/ XBRITE-ECO™ technology
The Sony VAIO Lifestyle 8-Inch Laptop incorporates built-in wireless WAN 3G Mobile Broadband, 802.11n Wi-Fi and Bluetooth technologies. The true winner feature? It only weighs 1.4 pounds.
3. A new phone – Nokia N97 with Touchscreen – this techy gadget comes with 5 MP Camera (good for quick shots), A-GPS, 32 GB and MicroSD Slot. Large and gorgeously colorful, the Nokia N97′s 3.5-inch touch display offers a 640 x 360-pixel resolution and support for up to 16.7 million colors for an excellent color depth.
To start typing email or text/instant messages, just flip the N97 on its left side and slide the face up to reveal the full QWERTY keyboard. The display pivots to an angle that makes it easy to read the screen while typing. Wow.
I can almost imagine that this is my hand and doing my regular online activities!
It also has an A-GPS functionality, you’ll be able find your route quickly and easily, whether walking or driving which is very convenient to use here in Dubai! No more wasting time on the road getting lost!
So you think these three are winner gifts or what!? Would you believe I haven’t given any birthday gift since we got married. Six years ago.
Your turn: Help me out here, will ya? Add your favorite geeky things/gifts in the comments!

Me personally? I won’t dare buy my hubby electronic gifts; he’s way too particular, and he knows precisely what he wants. I’ve been known to buy him gift cards to electronic stores. That way he gets just that – precisely he wants.

Happy Birthday to your Hubby! The only thing I can think of at the moment is the Lightscribe pen that records lectures and writing and puts it directly into your computer-I don’t know if he can use that or not.
I’m sure you’ll find something amazing and he’ll love it

My husband is tough to buy for too. But the way to avoid anyone ever saying that to you is to marry a man 20 years old than you. lol!

KINDLE … is it already available in DUBAI??
I don’t know if it’s available in Dubai but it’s available in Japan and I’m sure my hubs would prefer the Japanese version. Gah.

The Kindle is SO on my Christmas (or Birthday – Dec. 7th) list, and I would love to have the Sony VAIO Lifestyle 8-Inch Laptop in Red, as I have the Vaio 17″ laptop right now. It too is about 5 years old and ready to fall apart, and WAY too heavy.
Thanks for the info on all these really cool stuff! Hope your hubby has a great birthday!!
