Just when things are going smooth at the gym, meaning, I am not dreading the thought of sweating it out, running on the mill and at the sauna, something came up. Not the excuses, no, because I am determined to continue because I am actually enjoying my time there. If I have known before that sauna sessions had a relaxing effect physically and emotionally, I would have done it years before.
Back to the topic…I got an email from work that the company is offering Arabic classes, for FREE. No catch, the course is a three-week, 2 hour each session and it’s absolutely free of charge to employees. The course runs on Mondays, Tuesdays and Wednesdays, 6:30-8:30 pm, 35 sessions in all. Wow, the cost of this course when taken outside could easily come up to 5,000 dirhams.
I would love to take Arabic classes and learn the language (although there’s really no need of it in the office because English is used) but learning a new language is always a great challenge I always dig….and it’s free. But what about the gym? and wouldn’t it be too late to go home after classes? Will it be really worth it? Wouldn’t I just forget about it after I learned it because I won’t be able to practice it at home or at work? Will my brain be able to take another foreign language squeezed inside?
I am torn.

the arabic class sounds potentially beneficial even if you won’t be able to practice it, but you just can’t drop your gym sessions too.
i think what you need is better time management.
The arabic classes finish at 8:30 pm on Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday… with Dubai traffic, I will be home by 9:30 pm. or 10. Gym closes at 9 pm.
I can still go to the gym on Saturday, Sunday, Thursday and Friday and most probably watch what I’m eating on the days I don’t go to the gym, hee hee.

Definitely take the arabic classes if you like to learn new languages anyway. It’s free and I bet it’s fun, even if you won’t be fluent after such a short course. You never know when it might come in handy some day.
And you can go to the gym some other day or go back to jogging for a while. Learning arabic is so much cooler than wasting your time at a boring gym, really.

i would prefer going to the gym if learning Arabic will not benefit me in any way.

I’d rather go to the gym than sit in a classroom for more than an hour.

Oh wow! Sign up for the classes! I know that you’ll miss some of your exercise routine, but can’t you still go on Thursday and Friday? (or whatever your other week days are!) And 3 weeks isn’t too long to get out of the habit. I’m so jealous of you!

Will you be learning to write it, too? Spoken Arabic is easy to pick up but written is a bit more complicated. And the Arabic that locals speak is a tad different from what they teach you in class. And, if you don’t converse with someone frequently, it’s easy to forget. Still, learning a new language is always good.
