The Recipe Club: A Tale of Food and Friendship is the first novel cookbook I have read. I don’t think I have seen a book with recipes all through the end. There’s nothing like it – a book that narrates of a friendship that spans decades between two friends Lilly and Valerie who call themselves Lilly Pad and Val Pal. They formed an exclusive two-member club when they were teenagers and exchanged mails (the old style handwritten ones that I so love) and recipes along with their deepest hopes, fears and secrets. During their college years, an argument leads to an estrangement, which lasts for 26 years. In the end, a secret changes their lives forever. If you’re a girl, you will know what it’s all about. This book is a unique novel/cookbook that celebrates the power of women’s friendships.
From Harper Collins:
Loyalty, loss, and the ties that bind. These are the ingredients of The Recipe Club, a “novel cookbook” that combines an authentic story of friendship with more than 80 delicious recipes. The Recipe Club sustains Lilly and Val’s bond through the decades, regardless of what different paths they take or what misunderstandings threaten to break them apart . . . until the fateful day when an act of kindness becomes an unforgivable betrayal.
As I read the book, I wanted to stop and try each recipe I see because of the simple way the recipes are presented but enticing nevertheless. In fact, I did! I invited my daughter Pristine to read with me and together we followed “Ben’s Brownie Sundae”. It was so easy even a 6 year old can do it!
The Recipe Club: A Tale of Food and Friendship is an engaging, heartfelt book to be kept – in your bookshelf or better, in your kitchen! I read most of it in my kitchen.
Giveaway!!

Sorry I did not respond to your comment earlier – things have been a bit hectic with the new baby and I am just now catching up on my blogs/blogging. And I recently posted some photos of my little one online – he is such a sweet little boy. At least when he’s not crying – haha. We will most likely be back in the US in May for a few months at least. Trying to beat the crazy Dubai summers you know.
