I’ve been curious with this thing called “Windows phone”. My husband owns one and he is happy with it. However, he has been waiting for Nokia’s Windows phone flagship Lumia 920, running on Windows 8. (I’ve been using an iPhone 4 for the past 15 months)
I had the opportunity to review Nokia’s latest and can’t wait to share it with you.
I love my iPhone too much so for me to be so excited about another phone like this means the new phone must really be impressive. And I’m not even paid to say or write this!
I love the color – I got the vibrant red Lumia 920. The phone’s body is carved out of a single block of polycarbonate. This approach makes it durable as there’s less chance of anything snapping off if it falls. (Cue, relief from someone who has seen phones exploding into pieces!)
It is extremely well-built and sturdy in your hands, but a bit chunky. This extra bit of volume could be attributed to the image stabilization used in the camera, so maybe they had no choice (when you use the camera, you’ll know it was all worth it!).
At 185 grams, it’s very manageable in your hands, although it might get uncomfortable in your pocket.
- Height: 130.3 mm
- Width: 70.8 mm
- Thickness: 10.7 mm
- Weight: 185 g
- Display size: 4.5″
- Primary camera sensor size: 8.7 megapixels
- Colors available: Yellow, red, white, cyan and black
For first time smartphone buyers, having fewer apps may not be as big as an issue, but anyone who has used an iPhone or Android device is bound to come up short in their app search.
I have 3,000 photos on my little over a year old iPhone 4. What does that say of me? Yes, I am a huge phone camera shutterbug! Since having the iPhone, my big cameras (SLR and point and shoot) are gathering dust at home. Who wouldn’t love things that are handy?
I take photos of almost anything. I was happy with my iPhone photos until I got the Lumia. This is mind-blowing.
All of the photos above are straight out of the phone camera. No bells and whistles added. No flash, either. Some of it were taken at night (see the Burj Khalifa photo and be very impressed with the non-blurry night scene!). With natural light, like the ones I took of my daughter, the Lumia 920 phone camera really delivers. I am sold!
Save for its big size (bigger than the iPhone anyway), I’m afraid I could fall in love with this phone enough to switch. If you’re an eternal Nokia user or curious about Windows phone or want a smart phone with big screen (great for browsing and reading e-books!), I highly recommend the Lumia 920.
I did not expect to say this but yes, the Lumia could be Nokia’s saving grace.
