Our guide took us to the Hua Hin night market on our first night in Thailand. To be blunt, I was expecting scorpions and other interesting bugs in skewers emitting that exotic smoky aroma all through the town.
There weren’t any!
And I was quite disappointed. I’ve read it in books in magazines – I want to see it in person. I’ll just take pictures of it though. I don’t do stuffs that are too ‘exotic’ (scaredy cat). There were huge sea creatures instead.

There were also squid in skewer sticks that you can buy and just nibble along.
Thailand is a seafood paradise, especially if you visit the coastal towns but unfortunately I am such a drag because I am allergic to seafood (except fish) so no prawns or squid for me.
Earlier, we had a big seafood dinner by the sea and we were all stuffed but somehow, I found a way to squeeze in this local street desert called “Banana Rotee” – it’s a ripe banana wrapped in crepe like thin paper with condensed milk. It’s a hit in this part of Thailand.

Ok food topic aside, there were lots of things being sold at the night market, the usual souvenirs:
The beautiful lamps. A friend of mine bought lots.
And the unusual ones – the ones where you ask, what the heck is that and what for!?
Cut hands and feet (other body parts also available!) as souvenirs!? Seriously, who buys these stuffs?
How about a bustier handbag? Would you use it?
Erotic – not exotic souvenir. Speaking of which, I found this shirt called “Love is…”
Weird but funny. Another bunch of wood carvings, including a disturbing one.
Again, who buys and displays this stuff in their homes!?
All in all, my first time night market experience was interesting. I’d love to go back again if I can. Maybe bring back a wooden elephant next time.
